23 Mar Legislature Launches Coronavirus Response
Members of the Legislature met today as part of the newly formed Joint Special Committee on Coronavirus Response. The discussion centered around a document outlining the immediate actions that the Legislature should adopt prior to the end of March. The co-chairs focused the proposed actions on three buckets:
• Stability for individuals and families
• Health care system needs
• Short-term employer assistance
Actions recommended by the Joint Committee will be formally considered by the full legislature once a special session convenes.
House Republicans and Senate Republicans have also issued their own recommendations for immediate actions, which both have significant overlap, but also includes some additional ideas, such as suspending newly created paper bag fees, deferring all city and state business taxes, and temporarily lifting maximum hours restriction in manufacturing.
